Goose Hunting Highlights

I’ve been awfully busy on a number of different outdoor fronts as of late, but I wanted to share some quick highlights of Sunday’s Canada goose hunting adventure on Lost Island along the Platte River in Butler County, NE. Special thanks to landowner, conservationist, expert waterfowler and good friend Kyle Simpson who arranged the hunt with youth on his property which has outstanding waterfowl habitat! Thanks again, Kyle!  By the way, Kyle hates to have his picture taken, HA, gotcha anyway, Simpson!

Here are the highlights of the hunt. While glancing through the photos, I’d like you to keep in mind this quote: “In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we have been taught.”

  1. Thank you all for giving the youth of tomorrow such a wonderful hunting opportunity! It looks like everybody had an outstanding time (those million-dollar smiles make all the hard work worth it)!!

Aldo Leopold said in 1937 that “Our ability to perceive quality in nature begins as in art with the pretty. It expands through successive stages of the beautiful to values as yet uncaptured by language. The quality of cranes lies, I think, in this higher gamut, as yet beyond the reach of words.” I think a goose hunt like this, especially for youth, is an opportunity to experience life in the marsh in a way that is beyond the reach of words.

    Thanks for your great work!!!

    • Hi Nate,

The credit goes to Kyle Simpson and others. It appreciated the opportunity to be part of it! The kids had a tremendous time! I think the sights and sounds of waterfowl are forever embedded in their memories! Thanks for the kind words, Nate, as well as the Aldo Leopold quote. Good hunting to you and your young folks!

  2. Great day Greg. The girls and I had a ball! Glad you could be there. Awesome pictures, thanks again.

P.S I told you the stills of the dog would look better than a video.LOL

    • Shawn,

Great day indeed! Thanks for bringing the girls! They were fantastic, the hit of the blind! Appreciate the kudos on the pics. And yes, you were correct, the stills of your cool “Chessie” (Chesapeake Bay Retriever) named “Sue” turned out far better than the video. Neat dog! Thanks for having me!
