LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has awarded 11 grants totaling nearly $100,000 for the promotion of outdoor activities across the state.
The Outdoor Marketing Grant program allows visitors bureaus, historical groups and other organizations to apply for grant funds to promote outdoor recreation programs, events and opportunities. In Nebraska, outdoor recreation contributes approximately $2.4 billion annually to the state’s economy.
The grants are intended to help communities and organizations connect with Nebraskans and visitors interested in spending time outdoors.
The recipients of this year’s grants are:
— The Better Ponca Foundation, Ponca State Park event promotion, $25,000
— Burwell Area/Garfield County Visitors Bureau, “Secrets of the Calamus” marketing campaign, $4,910
— City of Seward, Independence Landing promotional project, $8,812
— Dawes County Travel Board, Dawes County: A Place for All Seasons, $2,163
–Kearney Visitors Bureau, Fort Kearny State Historical Park marketing, $10,000
— Kearney Visitors Bureau, Sandhill Crane marketing campaign, $16,000
— Missouri River Basin Lewis and Clark Trail, Lewis and Clark Reunion VII, $6,825
— North Platte/Lincoln County Visitors Bureau, “Crosswest Adventures” film, $11,925
— Prairie Pines Pals, LTD, NaturePalooza, $1,894
— Southwest Nebraska Resource Conservation and Development District, Prairie Chicken Dance Tours, $5,785
— Washington County Historical Association, heritage tourism marketing and school living history, $6,627
Preference was given to marketing campaigns promoting Game and Parks’ public areas and supporting outdoor recreation, conservation, and stewardship initiatives.
