Prescribed Burns of Grasslands Scheduled

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will conduct prescribed burns of grasslands at several state-owned areas as weather conditions allow.

These burns will stimulate the growth of grasses and forbs and remove invasive tree and brush species. Burning will take place pending approval from local fire chiefs.

Burns are scheduled for the following areas, listed by county. All areas are wildlife management areas, unless otherwise noted:

Antelope – Red Wing, Grove Lake;  Butler – Redtail; Cass –  Schilling, Tobacco Island; Custer – Arcadia Diversion, Myrtle Hall, Pressey; Dawson – Bittern’s Call; Dixon – Buckskin Hills, Ponca State Park, Powder Creek; Douglas – Two Rivers; Fillmore – Sandpiper; Gage – Arrowhead, Diamond Lake; Howard – Leonard A. Koziol, Harold Anderson; Jefferson – Flathead, Rock Glen, Rose Creek, Alexandria, Rock Creek Station; Johnson – Osage, Twin Oaks; Lancaster – Bluestem, Branched Oak State Recreation Area and WMA, Conestoga, Olive Creek, Pawnee WMA, Wagon Train, Wildwood, Yankee Hill; Lincoln – Chester Island; Loup – Calamus; Nance – Don Dworak; Nemaha – Brownville Bend, Peru Bottoms; Otoe – Triple Creek MA, Hamburg Bend; Pawnee – Burchard Lake, Lores Branch, Mayberry, Pawnee Prairie, Prairie Knoll, Table Rock; Phelps – Sacramento-Wilcox; Platte – George Syas, Wilkinson; Richardson – Kinters Ford; Saline – Divorky, Swan Creek; Saunders – Bramble; Seward – Bur Oak, Twin Lakes; Sherman – Sherman Reservoir; Stantion – Red Fox, Wood Duck; Thayer – Little Blue, Little Blue East, Meridian.
