Wear Your Life Jacket to Work

Some of you are looking at the title of this blog post and thinking to yourselves that I am crazy.  For the record, I am, crazy that is.  Secondly, there are times where I literally do wear my life jacket to work!

But more specifically today, May 16, 2014 is National Wear Your Life Jacket to Work Day!

This annual event, hosted by the National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) serves as a fun, educational way to kick off National Safe Boating Week, May 17-23.  Educating the boating public about the safety and comfort of life jackets has been a main focus of the North American Safe Boating Campaign.

U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in almost 71% of recreational boating fatalities in 2012, and that approximately 85 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets.

I usually mention this once a year, and I know some of you tough guys and tough gals out there will ignore me.  I know you do because I see A LOT of you fishing, especially fishing alone in a boat, and NOT wearing any type of life jacket.  If you want to be stupid, I do not care.  It would not bother me a bit to have one less of you fishing my best spots.  However, I also know that you have wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, kids, who will care if you are being stupid.  So wear it, all the time.  They do not work if you are not wearing them.

Wear it to work to remind everyone of how important it is.  If you want, have some fun with it, there will be a bunch of folks on FaceBook who will, https://www.facebook.com/ReadySetWearIt .

Bailey the boat cat is even wearing it!
