Deer Hunters Have Two Resources to Donate Venison

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission reminds hunters that there are two programs that support deer donation in Nebraska: Hunters Helping the Hungry (HHH) and the Deer Exchange.

HHH pays for the processing of whole field-dressed deer that hunters donate at any HHH processor, and the Deer Exchange program allows hunters to sign-up with the exchange to find individuals who have also signed-up and want to receive venison.

The Deer Exchange is free to use for anyone, but no processing costs are paid for under the program. Venison may not be sold or purchased, but hunters and people receiving the venison may agree to share in processing costs. Any amount and type of venison can be transferred, from a whole field-dressed deer, to jerky, to packaged roasts.

HHH is funded by voluntary cash contributions, which are and those funds are then used to pay for processing. Ground venison is picked up from each processor by a charitable organization that then distributes it to Nebraskans, usually through local pantries or shelters.
