Game and Parks to Burn Brush Piles

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will burn brush piles, as weather and snow cover allow, at several sites across the state.

Brush piles are created by the removal of invading trees in grassland or timber stands or from trees damaged in storms. Removal of brush piles will open grasslands and timber for continued management, eliminate a wildfire fuel source and eliminate sites conducive to the germination of noxious and invasive plants.

The following list includes scheduled prescribed burns by county:

Antelope County – Grove Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA); Burt County – Summit Lake State Recreation Area (SRA), Pelican Point SRA; Knox County – Bazile Creek WMA, Lewis and Clark SRA; Jefferson County – Flathead WMA; Lancaster County – Branched Oak WMA, Yankee Hill WMA, Hedgefield WMA, Conestoga WMA, Wagon Train WMA; Otoe County – Triple Creek WMA; Saline County – Swan Creek WMA, Divoky WMA; Seward County – Twin Lakes WMA; Thayer County – Meridian WMA, Dry Sandy WMA; Pawnee County – Bowwood WMA, Pawnee Prairie WMA, Prairie Knoll WMA, Table Rock WMA, Taylor’s Branch WMA; Washington County – Fort Atkinson State Historical Park.
