Commission to Consider Grants for Outdoor Recreation Projects

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider grant award recommendations for the 2015 Land and Water Conservation Fund Stateside Assistance Program at its Jan. 15 meeting in Lincoln.

The program provides funding for community outdoor recreation projects across Nebraska. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, ball fields, soccer fields, picnic facilities, playgrounds, park acquisition and development, shelter houses, trails and related support facilities. The program provides reimbursable matching grants for 50 percent of project costs.

Game and Parks staff will recommend the following receive funding for the program:

— Lexington, $30,000 to build three Americans with Disabilities Act fishing piers

— Omaha, $100,000 to replace an existing playground and walkways

— Firth, $84,750 to build a new splash pad

— Gordon, $50,000 to renovate a playground

— Lincoln, $50,000 to renovate a playground, repair a shelter and other amenities

— Bloomfield, $38,600 to acquire a lot and develop recreational vehicle camping pads

The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the third-floor conference room of Game and Parks headquarters, 2200 N. 33rd St.

Also on the agenda are recommendations to:

— approve a new lease with the City of Valentine, for the portion of the Valentine Fish Hatchery that is on city property, to accommodate a new golf course to be built by the city;

— amend camping and rental fees at state park areas; and

— approve seven outdoor trail projects for federal funding through the Recreational Trail Program.
