Last Friday I blogged about a new bait that Rapala will be releasing this spring.  Today I want to tell you about some other baits, some hand-made baits crafted right here in good ole Nebraska!

I have met Bob Sturgeon; he makes Angry Sturgeon Lures.  Those baits are made right here in Nebraska and they are beautiful baits.  Bob does outstanding work!

Go to their web page and take a look, you will see that these are not your typical crankbaits.  Actually, they are typical in their functionality, but what makes them so unique is the natural wood grain finish.  They are beautiful lures.  In fact, I have a couple of these baits and honestly I have been afraid to use them because they look so good.  If you look around the gallery on the Angry Sturgeon website, you will see that these baits work quite well.

I will always tell you that the most important characteristics about crankbaits are the depth at which they run and their vibration.  Sure, color can make a difference in some situations, but usually it is not THE important characteristic that many anglers believe it to be.  These natural wood-grain baits have enough color to catch fish and in fact their natural, subdued color may be the best color in some fishing situations.  They vibrate like a crankbait, and that is what counts.

I have played around with making my own crankbaits, still have a few in my tackle box.  The reason I do not do much of that anymore is it takes a lot of time and folks like Bob have way more talent than I do!  I know how much time and skill go into making hard baits, crankbaits, and some of the Angry Sturgeon baits are beyond anything I would even dare to try to make on my own.
