Fort Kearny Outdoor Expo Offers Free Outdoor Activities for All

LINCOLN – Youth, families and anyone else interested in trying kayaking, archery, fishing and many other outdoor activities are invited to attend the free Fort Kearny Outdoor Expo on Saturday, May 9 at Fort Kearny State Recreation Area near Kearney.

This annual event, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is designed to give people of all ages the chance to try a variety of outdoor activities at no cost under the guidance of trained outdoor educators. All equipment is provided.

Both youth and adults can try rock climbing, outdoor cooking, slingshot and air rifle shooting and bowfishing, among other activities. Those who attend can also identify wildlife pelts at the trappers tent, engage in recreational outdoor games, and play with nature in the kids “Discovery Zone. Additionally, there will be demonstrations on predator calling, turkey hunting and Nebraska’s native snakes, among other topics.

New attractions in 2015 include a nationally recognized Teddy Roosevelt impersonator and cattle dog demonstrations by Angelyne the amazing deaf cattle dog.
