Surveys Provide Opportunity for Hunters to Voice Preferences

LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is in the midst of surveying hunters about their harvest success and hunting preferences. All hunters who received surveys are urged to complete and return them to Game and Parks.

The survey process allows Game and Parks biologists to collect data about the number and location of animals harvested in Nebraska, as well as hunter satisfaction. This information, combined with data from species surveys and other research, allows Game and Parks staff to make science-based recommendations about hunting regulations, as well as wildlife and habitat management decisions.

“Surveys are the best opportunity for hunters to share their feedback, opinions and preferences about Nebraska’s hunting opportunities,” said Karie Decker, Game and Parks wildlife assistant division administrator. “Game and Parks staff members pay close attention to the information collected in these surveys when setting hunting regulations.”

Hunters who purchased multiple permits in the past year may receive multiple surveys. Game and Parks urges hunters to complete and return each one. Each survey is designed to take just a few minutes to complete.

Surveys may be received via email, U.S. mail, or in the field as part of a study with the University of Nebraska.

“Each time a hunter purchases a permit, his or her permit dollars help fund habitat projects and other conservation efforts,” Decker said. “Participating in surveys is another way for hunters to contribute to the future of conservation in Nebraska, and we’re grateful for their support.”
