Develop outdoor skills during summer day camps

LINCOLN – Develop outdoor skills this summer at the Nebraska Game and Parks Outdoor Education Center. The center is offering summer day camps perfect for the budding outdoorsman or outdoorswoman in your life.

Outdoor Adventure Day Camp June 29 through July 2 will allow youth age 6 to 15 to learn about plant and wildlife identification, outdoor cooking, archery, shooting sports and camping. Youth will also have the opportunity to make nature-based crafts and develop basic outdoor survival skills. Cost is $120 for the four day camp. Each day runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required.

Outdoor Skills Day Camp July 13 through 17 will help youth age 8 to 15 to learn about survival skills, geocaching, wilderness navigation, wildlife and plant identification and the basics of camping. Participants will spend time on the archery and air gun ranges while receiving instruction from experienced archery and shooting coaches, as well. Campers will have a chance to talk hunting, fishing, and everything outdoors firsthand with the Outdoor Education staff. This camp will also teach the importance of conservation and habitat preservation. Outdoor Skills Camp will meet all Hunter and Bow Hunter Education requirements and students will be eligible to receive certificate(s) of completion. Cost is $150 for the five day camp. Each day will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
