Segment of Cowboy Trail Near Oakdale Temporarily Closed

LINCOLN – A segment of the Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail east of Oakdale in Antelope County is temporarily closed for repairs of damage from recent heavy rains.

The trail approach to a bridge 3 miles east of Oakdale is washed out. Nebraska Game and Parks Commission trail personnel are working with local contractors to get the bridge and trail surface repaired. The public will be notified when the trail is re-opened.

Trail users are advised to plan ahead and make alternate arrangements if hiking or biking this segment of the trail. “We are working as quickly as possible to make repairs and get the trail back open for our hikers and bikers this fall,” Willow Creek State Recreation Area Superintendent Dan Sutherland said.

The Cowboy Trail, the nation’s longest rail-to-trail conversion, has 195 miles completed from Norfolk to Valentine.
