Memphis SRA temporarily closed because of storm damage

LINCOLN, Neb. – Access to Memphis State Recreation Area in Saunders County is closed until further notice while extensive tree damage from last weekend’s storm is cleared. No injuries were reported from the Saturday night storm that also damaged structures in the park. Campers in that area can find sites at Fremont Lakes SRA in Dodge County, Two Rivers SRA in Douglas County, and Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, Platte River State Park and Louisville SRA in Cass County. Read …

Louisville SRA floating playground to reopen July 17

LINCOLN, Neb. — The floating playground at Louisville State Recreation Area will reopen for use July 17 as part of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission’s continuing effort to restore park opportunities and amenities across the state. The playground, one of the only floating obstacle courses in the region, will operate at about half capacity, allowing 55 people access at one time. “We are excited to restore this popular opportunity for outdoor recreation this summer,” said Parks Division Administrator Jim …

On the Platte Close to Home

This past week, Game & Parks friends and I enjoyed kayaking and canoeing the Platte River just south/southwest of the Omaha-metro area and sure had a nice trip.
