A Personal Perspective on National Hunting and Fishing Day

National Hunting and Fishing Day is this Saturday, Sept. 23. This is a significant day. No, this is not just another one of those celebratory days, not by a long shot. I grew up hunting and fishing in rural Nebraska. My hunting heritage began 54 years ago this fall as a “quail dog” for my dad and his friend, Jim on our family farm in southeast Nebraska. I am eternally grateful to my dad for taking me hunting! Below a …

A Look Back, 2014

I guess as we come to the close of another year on the calendar it is natural to take a look back.  For me there was a tremendous amount that happened in 2014, some good, some bad, with family, fins, feathers, and fur running through all of it.  Let me share a few reflections, show some pictures, tell you what I will remember about 2014. So, what I’ve decided to do with this blog post, is to share some of our Wagner family photos  (memories) from the weekend spent with my in-laws at their place on Kuesters Lake just east of Grand Island, NE. Here’s a photo of my wife Polly …

Spring Break Trout

With teenagers, you take advantage of any time that they may have available and want to venture outdoors. I did just that with the youngest member of our family yesterday. That would be our 15 year-old Creighton Prep High School Freshman Noah (Wagner). It’s spring break week at Prep and Noah indicated to me that he might like to get out and do a little fishin’ at the Two Rivers SRA Trout Lake near Waterloo and then go visit Grandma. …
