Hunters will have a chance to pursue deer at three state park areas along the lower Platte River this fall and winter. The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is offering special antlerless deer hunting opportunities within Eugene T. Mahoney and Platte River state parks and Schramm Park State Recreation Area. Compete in steel plate challenge at Platte River State Park

Celebrate National Shooting Sports Month at the range by participating in a steel plate shooting challenge Aug. 27 at Platte River State Park near Louisville. The competition will be 9 to 11 a.m. at the Roger G. Sykes Outdoor Heritage Education Complex. Cost is  $15 to compete, and participants must be 16 years old or older. Platte River State Park will celebrate its 40th anniversary Aug. 13 with a daylong event for the entire family. There will be a bison stew cookout and Dutch oven desserts to sample, as well as food to purchase, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the ball field. Memphis SRA temporarily closed because of storm damage

LINCOLN, Neb. – Access to Memphis State Recreation Area in Saunders County is closed until further notice while extensive tree damage from last weekend’s storm is cleared. No injuries were reported from the Saturday night storm that also damaged structures in the park. Campers in that area can find sites at Fremont Lakes SRA in Dodge County, Two Rivers SRA in Douglas County, and Eugene T. Platte River SP observation tower to reopen Oct. 9

LINCOLN, Neb. – Platte River State Park’s Lincoln Journal Star Observation Tower will reopen to the public Oct. 9. The tower had been closed since Sept. 17 so it could be painted. In addition, the Daugherty Tower, located near the park’s Mallet Lodge, will close for renovations Oct. 9 through Dec. 1. The observation tower at Eugene T. LINCOLN, Neb. – Platte River State Park’s Lincoln Journal Star Observation Tower will close temporarily to the public so it can be painted. Located near Walter Scott Jr. Lodge, the tower will be closed Sept. 17 to Nov. 1. Hiking near the tower is permissible, but the area below the tower will be closed to traffic.
